Massage chairs

A massage chair helps soothe sore and tired muscles, relax the entire body and relieve discomfort in the spine, back and neck. Regular massage can help reduce stress, improve sleep quality, ease headaches and support overall well-being. Daily massage in a massage chair benefits the muscular, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system – making it a valuable investment in your well-being, as the benefits of a massage chair can be significant. Health professionals also recognise that quality massage can have a positive effect on both physical and mental well-being.

What types of massage chairs are available?

• 2D massage chair – the massage rollers move up, down, left and right. Some models also allow you to adjust the massage speed and width.
• 3D massage chair – the rollers move in depth, width and height, with adjustable intensity ranging from gentle to strong. This creates a more realistic massage sensation with precise pressure and deep massage similar to the movements of human hands.
• 4D massage chair – works similarly to a 3D chair in terms of depth, width and height, but adds more advanced roller movements and variations. This allows for an even deeper and more precise massage as well as additional massage techniques, including stretching programmes such as Thai stretching.
• 6D massage chair – features a dual massage mechanism which, in addition to advanced 4D massage movements, can massage the neck and lower back simultaneously.
• XD massage chair – an upgraded mechanism found in Bodyfriend massage chairs. A sensor adjusts the range of the massage ball in increments of 1.25 mm, providing an exceptionally precise and personalised massage.

What types of massage tracks are available?

There are five main types of massage tracks:

• No track (massage cushion) – the rollers are fixed in position, so the massage offers limited adjustability. These models are generally more affordable and usually include a smaller selection of massage programmes.
• Straight track – approximately 64 cm long and typically found in more affordable models, with a limited number of programmes and a relatively fixed, strong massage intensity.
• S-track – follows the natural curve of the spine, allowing the rollers to adapt closely to the shape of the back and travel from the upper back down towards the lower back. It is generally 60–80 cm long and places particular emphasis on the neck and shoulders.
• L-track – similar to an S-track but longer, usually around 110–130 cm. It extends beneath the lower back to massage the buttocks and thighs as well, providing more extensive coverage of the lower body.
• SL-track – combines and extends the characteristics of both S- and L-tracks. It is one of the most advanced ergonomic track designs, providing precise massage coverage over a larger area of the body.

Frequently asked questions about massage chairs

What is the difference between a 2D, 3D, 4D and 6D massage chair?

A 2D massage chair moves its rollers up, down, left and right. A 3D chair adds adjustable massage depth. A 4D massage chair uses additional variations in roller movement to provide a more precise and intensive massage. A 6D chair features a dual massage mechanism that can massage areas such as the neck and lower back simultaneously. In general, more advanced technologies offer a wider range of massage techniques and adjustment options.

Which massage track (S, L or SL) is right for me?

An S-track is an excellent choice for massaging the neck, shoulders and back. An L-track extends further to include the buttocks and thighs, providing more comprehensive coverage of the lower body. An SL-track combines the advantages of both systems and provides one of the most complete full-body massage experiences.

Can I try a massage chair before buying?
