We thoroughly studied the providers, calculated and compared different types of saunas, added up the costs - and here we present the result that will tell you whether it is worth having a sauna at home. You will also find out how long or after how many visits the purchase of the sauna will pay you back. Here it is: black and white. So let's begin, first briefly about the advantages and disadvantages of a home sauna and a public sauna.
Advantages and disadvantages of public and home saunas
1. The comfort, privacy and social aspect of the sauna
One of the biggest advantages of a sauna at home is certainly the comfort and privacy it brings. You don't have to share space with strangers, allowing for a completely relaxing and private experience. Public saunas, on the other hand, allow you to hang out with friends or meet new people. This can contribute to a positive social experience.
2. Accessibility
The home sauna is always available, regardless of the time of day or night. You don't have to worry about the schedule of public saunas or wait for a free place. It is necessary to go to the public sauna - get dressed, pack, bring - which is not necessarily a bad thing, as it enables a real escape from everyday life. Public saunas operate according to schedules, which means that you have to adapt to their opening hours.
3. Flexibility or diversity?
In a home sauna, you have complete control over the temperature and humidity in your sauna. You can choose the type of sauna (Finnish, infrared) and adjust the conditions to your preferences. Public saunas offer different types of saunas, massages and other additional services. This allows for more variety and flexibility in the experience, but not the sauna functions.
4. Hygiene
If you use your sauna correctly (put a towel under you, take a shower, etc.), you can be sure of good hygienic conditions. Slovenian sauna providers take good care of hygiene, but you never know how hygienic other people are when using them.

Comparison of the cost of a public and home sauna
1. Sauna costs in wellness centers, hotels and private providers
Let's go straight to the numbers:
The prices of relaxing in a public sauna have risen considerably in the last two years. If two years ago we could calculate €20/person, the balance at the end of December 2023 is €30/person.
| Duration (h) | Price per person (€) | |
| Major wellness provider 1 | 3 | 29 / 34 weekend |
| Major wellness provider 2 | 3 | 27 / 33 weekend |
| Private provider in a tourist resort (private sauna rental) | 2,5 | 35 |
| Private provider on the outskirts (public sauna) | 2,5 | 25 |
Average price per person for 3 hours of sauna in a public sauna: €30.
2. The price of a JJSPA home sauna
Prices for JJSPA saunas vary depending on the type of sauna and the features it offers. A sauna for one person costs on average €1,300, a sauna for two people €1,880, a sauna for four people €2,349 and a sauna for five or six people €4,079.
3. The cost of setting up a sauna at home
JJSPA saunas are delivered to you for free. Upon your request, we can also install saunas by prior agreement. Since all saunas are made according to the Easy-build principle, you can assemble the sauna yourself at home with a few basic tools. The pages are already assembled. You fasten them together with special buckles according to the enclosed instructions, connect the components and you are ready to use - whenever your heart desires.
How about the space? Saunas can be placed in principle wherever you have space. It can be a basement, a bathroom, a bedroom or even a living room. It is best if the floor is ceramic and the floor surface is flat. When measuring, be careful that there is enough space to open the door.

4. Electricity prices
Let's take a look at the prices of various JJSPA saunas and add the electricity costs. For the calculation, we used saunas with different consumption ranges to get a truly average cost of electricity. We used the average price - the uniform tariff with VAT, which comes into effect on 1 January 2024 - €0.188/kWh. The price per kWh may vary slightly - depending on the provider. In order to make a fair comparison with the use of a public sauna, we took the same time for the calculation - 3 hours of use.
| Savna in št. oseb | Nazivna moč savne (kW) | Skupen strošek elektrike v 3h (€) | Strošek elektrike na osebo (€) |
| JJSPA JIO90 - 1 os. | 1,4 | 0,79 | 0,79 |
| JJSPA JIP130 - 2 os. | 2,2 | 1,24 | 0,62 |
| JJSPA JF120 - 2 os. | 3 | 1,69 | 0,85 |
| JJSPA JFP150 - 4 os. | 4,5 | 2,54 | 0,63 |
| JJSPA JK200 - 5 os. | 8 | 4,51 | 0,9 |
| Sauna | Sauna capacity (number of persons) | Nominal power of the sauna (kW) | Total cost of electricity for three hours of use (€) | Electricity cost per person (€) |
| JJSPA JIO90 | 1 | 1,4 | 0,79 | 0,79 |
| JJSPA JIP130 | 2 | 2,2 | 1,24 | 0,62 |
| JJSPA JF120 | 2 | 3 | 1,69 | 0,85 |
| JJSPA JFP150 | 4 | 4,5 | 2,54 | 0,63 |
| JJSPA JK200 | 5 | 8 | 4,51 | 0,9 |
The average cost of electricity for three hours of sauna use for one person is €0.76.(Note: The infrared sauna can be turned off between individual therapies, so the actual cost is lower.)
5. The cost of the sauna in the first year
Let's assume that we will use the sauna less in the summer months, and twice a week in the winter months. This amounts to approximately 60 visits per year, which is about €45 of annual electricity consumption per person.
| Število upora- rabnikov | Povpr. cena savne glede na število upor. (€) | Letni strošek el. (€) | Skupni strošek el. 1. leta (€) |
| 1 | 1.300 | 45 | 1.345 |
| 2 | 1.880 | 90 | 1.970 |
| 4 | 2.350 | 180 | 2.530 |
| 5-6 | 4.080 | 270 | 4.350 |
| Number of users | The average price of a sauna according to the number of users (€) | Annual cost of electricity (€) | Total cost of 1st year (€) |
| 1 | 1.300 | 45 | 1.345 |
| 2 | 1.880 | 90 | 1.970 |
| 4 | 2.350 | 180 | 2.530 |
| 5-6 | 4.080 | 270 | 4.350 |

6. When do you get a return on your investment?
The average price of a single ticket is €30 per person.
- If you buy a sauna for one person, the price is equal to 44 visits to a public sauna.
- The price of a sauna for two is equal to 64 visits (32 visits by two people at once).
- The price of a sauna for four persons is equal to 112 sauna visits (28 visits of four persons at a time).
- The price of a sauna for five or six people is 144 per visit (or 24 per visit by six people at once).
The investment in a sauna is therefore quickly repaid if you are a regular visitor to public saunas. If two people visit the sauna twice a week, a sauna for two will pay for itself in just over half a year, and a sauna for one person in about a year. If you buy a sauna for 4 people, but two people will use it, the purchase will be repaid within one year by visiting the sauna twice a week.
The data for saunas for 4 or more people is not as accurate because you probably won't have the same number of people visiting the sauna at once, at least not that often. Once alone, once as a couple, sometimes in a larger company - your sauna for 4 or more people will pay for itself somewhere in the first two years.
A more accurate calculation is possible if you are determined on the exact model of the sauna - you may think of a sauna for several people just so that you can enjoy the sauna in a lying position. You should also know the price of the visit and the frequency of use of the public sauna. However, we believe that you will visit the JJSPA home sauna more times than a public sauna. It should be noted that the price of the public sauna does not include transport costs or other costs of renting towels and coats.
So, public or home sauna?
The decision between a home sauna and a public sauna depends on your personal preferences, budget and lifestyle. A home sauna provides greater comfort and privacy, but requires a financial investment, which is equal to a certain number of visits to a public sauna, as we stated above. If you use the sauna regularly, of course, the investment can be repaid fairly quickly. Let's also mention that a sauna at home also increases the value of your property. Public saunas are accessible and allow for a social experience, but they have scheduling and privacy restrictions. In the embrace of a sauna at home, you have the intimacy and flexibility of functions, as well as the easy accessibility of the sauna. The key is to weigh both and choose the option that best suits your needs and desires.
